LINE Official Account pricing: message counts and cost planning

Marketing8 min

LINE Official Account messaging costs depend on the monthly plan and the messages counted that month. Start with how many recipients each delivery will reach, rather than the total friend count alone.

Additional-message pricing changed in Japan on October 1, 2026. This guide explains how to estimate costs and review deliveries while preserving useful customer contact. Official pricing-change notice

Plans and eligibility for additional messages

The following plans apply to Japan. Prices exclude tax and separately contracted options.

Plan Monthly base fee Included monthly messages Messages beyond the allowance
Communication ¥0 200 Unavailable
Light ¥5,000 5,000 Unavailable
Standard ¥15,000 30,000 Available for an additional charge

Only Standard supports paid messages beyond its allowance. Light is not a plan where you simply pay for excess messages. Official plan page

Estimate an ordinary month and a promotion-heavy month separately. Friend acquisition alone does not describe the delivery frequency or automated messages you will need.

Count deliveries and recipients

Messages sent from the management interface are counted using deliveries multiplied by recipients. Segmented and step messages count; LINE Chat, auto-responses, and greeting messages do not. Official counting rules

Build the estimate delivery by delivery:

Estimated monthly count
= recipients across planned deliveries
  + expected step-message counts
+ chargeable messages sent through external tools

If a person receives another delivery on another day, count that delivery too. Deduplicating everyone reached during the month underestimates message volume. Account for delivery conditions and blocked users, then reconcile the estimate against actual counts.

For tools using the Messaging API, whether messages count depends on the sending method. Separate the tool's fees from LINE's message charges. Messaging API pricing and counting rules

Calculate additional charges

Under the Japanese pricing effective October 2026, the first 200,000 additional messages cost ¥3 each; additional messages beyond that cost ¥2.5 each. The threshold applies after removing the included allowance, not to total monthly volume. Detailed pricing announcement

For Standard, use this estimate and check the separately configured sending limit:

Additional count Q = max(0, monthly counted messages - 30,000)
Additional charge = min(Q, 200,000) × ¥3
                  + max(Q - 200,000, 0) × ¥2.5
Estimated monthly cost = ¥15,000 + additional charge + contracted options

A worked example with 40,000 monthly messages on Standard gives 10,000 additional messages. Their ¥30,000 charge plus the ¥15,000 base fee equals ¥45,000 before tax. This is a cost calculation, not an observed campaign result or revenue forecast.

Keep tax treatment consistent in your budget, and add any external messaging-tool fees.

Review the audience and purpose before reducing deliveries

Cutting every delivery equally can remove useful purchase follow-up or booking information. Write down who needs each message and what action it should support.

Delivery Audience information to consider Outcome to review
First-purchase guidance Purchase status, product interest, eligibility First purchases or qualified inquiries
Repeat-purchase guidance Last purchase, replenishment or renewal needs Repeat purchases or bookings
Limited-time offer Service area, eligibility, closing date Eligible purchases or applications
General announcement Why everyone needs the information Intended actions and signs of unwanted contact

Check whether you are sending to people whose interests or circumstances do not fit. Match segmentation plans to the data and delivery features you can actually use. Having purchase records does not automatically make them available for LINE targeting.

Use the LINE Official Account CRM and audience-planning guide to connect cost estimates with customer communication decisions.

A monthly cost review worksheet

  1. Confirm your plan, allowance, additional-message limit, and contracted options.
  2. List recurring, promotional, step, and external-tool deliveries.
  3. Estimate recipients and frequency for each, then calculate monthly volume and cost.
  4. If limits are exceeded, review purpose and outcomes before changing audiences, frequency, or plan.
  5. Replace estimates with actual volume and charges, and investigate differences.

If your budget limit was based on the previous prices, recalculate whether the same volume still fits. Check both the account's message limit and your internal monetary limit.

Delivery / purpose / audience criteria / estimated recipients / frequency
Estimated count / actual count / intended action and result
Monthly total / base fee / additional charges / options and tool fees
Message limit / monetary budget limit / delivery to review next

When asking AI to organize this worksheet, keep counts separate from outcomes and prohibit guessed inputs. Ask it to distinguish messages that could be removed from the evidence that removing them is sensible.

Start with next month's delivery schedule and calculate costs on a consistent tax basis. LINE message counts and purchase records are not automatically connected; prepare your own aggregate figures.
