What is agentic commerce? Preparing ecommerce product information

Updated Marketing9 min

Agentic commerce describes shopping experiences where AI agents assist with product discovery, comparison, and purchase processes. It does not mean every service purchases autonomously. The available actions depend on the service and its conditions.

An ecommerce marketer can start by aligning product pages and submitted data so that product questions receive accurate answers. This guide covers developments in Japan and abroad, an audit process, and an AI-assisted FAQ template.

Product discovery is changing in Japan and abroad

On June 23, 2026, Yahoo! Shopping announced the gradual introduction of AI Shopping Memo. It uses notes describing desired products or goals to suggest candidates and support comparison. Official announcement

Product-data management is also changing. On October 7, 2026, LY Corporation announced Business Manager product management, scheduled for October 26. TSV feeds will initially support Yahoo! JAPAN product listings and search-linked Shopping Ads. Official product-management announcement

Shopping ad accounts already operated through LINE Merchant System cannot use this product-management feature. Check your existing management method and eligibility first, then review approval, listing requirements, and data specifications after launch. Treat the audit below as a way to reduce inconsistencies, rather than assuming registration guarantees an AI recommendation.

Google announced agentic shopping updates on September 16, 2026. Merchant Center AI performance insights were announced for Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United States. Additional UCP checkout capabilities were described as gradually rolling out in the United States, rather than universally available in Japan. Google announcement

Our practical recommendation is to clarify the conditions shoppers compare. The audit below is an editorial workflow, not a guarantee of AI visibility or rankings.

How this relates to SEO and GEO

Activity Question to answer
Traditional SEO Can people find and read the product or explanatory page?
GEO and AI search preparation Does the page accurately explain information that AI answers might reference?
AI-assisted shopping preparation Can shoppers compare the product, verify selling conditions, and proceed to purchase?

These activities share foundations. Ambiguous price, stock, specifications, or shipping information make decisions harder. See the AI Overviews and SEO guide for Google Search fundamentals.

Ecommerce also requires managing product data. If you use Merchant Center, follow the official product data specification and check consistency with your page.

Audit a product page and its feed

Begin with one product you want to prioritize.

  1. Open the product page, submitted product data, and checkout.
  2. Check that the name, variant, price, and availability refer to the same item.
  3. Verify usage, dimensions, compatibility, and included items against your documents or the product itself.
  4. Check that shipping and returns information is accessible before purchase.
  5. Separate inconsistencies from missing information, then assign a source of truth and an update owner.
Purchase question Information to review Suggested correction
Which size should I buy? Size guide and product options Align the guide with variant names
Will it work with what I own? Supported devices and model numbers State verified compatibility
Are required parts included? Package contents and separate accessories Distinguish included items from separate purchases
When will it arrive, and at what cost? Stock, dispatch, and shipping Explain geographic or order-dependent conditions
Can I return it? Access to return conditions Make eligibility and the reference page clear

This is an editorial checklist. Required feed attributes depend on the product, country, and platform.

For paid placements within AI conversations, use the Agent i conversational-ad eligibility guide to distinguish product-data preparation from advertising delivery conditions.

Ask AI to organize product FAQs

Review whether this product information supports a purchase comparison.

Product page text:
Verified specifications and manuals:
Price, stock, and variants:
Shipping and return conditions:
Actual customer questions, without personal information:

Return:
- Purchase questions and answers supported by the supplied information
- Missing information needed to answer them
- Inconsistencies between the page and product data
- Details to add only after verification

Do not guess specifications, compatibility, delivery times, or guarantees.
Keep unknown answers as questions for staff, rather than published FAQs.
Do not promise placement in AI recommendations.

Merchant Center also documents optional conversational attributes for additional context such as FAQs and manuals. These supplement standard product descriptions, and duplicating existing information may be unnecessary. Check the official guide for supported attributes and formats.

Separate discovery, visits, and purchases

A single appearance in an AI answer does not establish sustained acquisition. Keep evidence separate:

  • Discovery: visibility or comparison information available in the service's official reports.
  • Visits: observed referrers and destination product pages on your own site.
  • Purchases: orders, returns, and cancellations recorded by your site or selling channel.

Japan is not among the announced markets for Google's AI performance insights. Referrer data may also miss AI-assisted visits. Distinguish what you can observe from what you cannot.

Record discounts and advertising changes made alongside product updates. Otherwise, increased purchases cannot be attributed solely to improved AI visibility.

Start with one product's verified facts and unanswered questions. Shoryaku AI chat can help prioritize improvements using connected Search Console and GA4 data. It does not edit or synchronize Merchant Center feeds; apply product changes through your ecommerce or sales management platform.
