Why Google Ads are not showing: causes, fixes, and zero-impression checks
When Google Ads impressions are zero, check the reporting period, eligibility, search demand, and bidding and measurement settings before increasing spend. There may be more than one cause.
Our own campaign also showed zero impressions shortly after launch. This guide offers a reusable checklist and what we could establish from that investigation. Zero conversions do not by themselves prove that bidding has stopped, and a loaded tag does not prove that conversion tracking works end to end.
Is your ad missing from your search, or are reported impressions zero?
Not seeing your own ad is different from having zero reported impressions. Location, time, and targeting can affect whether an ad appears for you.
Open the correct account and campaign and include the launch date in the reporting period. Separate today's partial figures from yesterday's completed day. Use Ad Preview and Diagnosis rather than repeatedly searching for your own ad. Google's guide to ads not showing starts with this distinction.
A checklist for zero impressions
Status is a starting point. “Eligible” does not guarantee an impression in every situation. For “Eligible (Limited),” read the detailed reason.
| Where to check | What to look for | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Period and account | Correct account and a period including launch | Align the reporting scope first |
| Account and billing | Suspension, payment, or verification alerts | Review the stated requirements |
| Campaign | Paused state, start/end dates, limitation reasons | Correct unintended pauses or dates |
| Ads and keywords | Review, disapproval, low search volume | Inspect review status and flagged items |
| Location, language, schedule | Match with customers and their search times | Target the customers you actually serve |
| Keywords | Demand, match types, conflicts with negatives | Check whether intended searches are excluded |
| Budget and bidding | Budget, target CPA constraints, learning or warnings | Review constraints and spending limits |
| Conversions | Goals in use, measurement route, receipt status | Separate installation from conversion receipt |
Many keywords do not guarantee demand or broad enough eligibility. Expanding locations, adding search partners, or broadening match types requires a decision about intended customers and cost limits. It is not a universal fix.
Common causes of ads not showing and possible fixes
Review, disapproval, or paused status
Inspect ad and account status. Check review progress, or read the disapproval reason and revise the content or destination. An enabled campaign can still contain ads or keywords unable to serve.
Targeting or keywords restrict the audience too far
Check whether location, language, and schedule fit actual customers, whether keywords have demand, and whether negatives block intended searches. Expand only where customers search, rather than broadening geography merely to gain volume.
Budget or bidding targets restrict opportunities
Read the limitation reason and review the bidding strategy and target. Before changing settings, define spending limits and confirm outcome measurement. Zero impressions alone do not prove insufficient budget.
Distinguish reporting delays from configuration problems
Record the period since launch, review or learning status, and the last check. Fix obvious pauses or incorrect targeting. Where the cause is unknown, define the next review point and items to inspect.
When conversion tracking has a warning
With conversion-based bidding, check measurement in three stages:
- Configuration: identify the action used by the campaign and whether it uses a website tag or a GA4 import. The troubleshooting route differs.
- Website behavior: for website tags, check the destination, the trigger on actual signup completion, and the published configuration. Separate tag loading from sending the completion event.
- Receipt in Google Ads: check the action's diagnostics and receipt status. Compare actual outcome records, the period, and whether outcomes came through advertising.
For Google Tag Manager, use Google's conversion tracking troubleshooter and tools such as Tag Assistant to inspect behavior at the event. For a GA4 import, check the event, key event, linked account, and imported action.
A loaded tag alone does not prove that Google Ads received a completed-signup conversion. Manually adding gclid=test is not an actual ad click and does not establish successful ad conversion tracking. Your own test signup does not guarantee an attributed business outcome or removal of a delivery limitation.
“No recent conversions” and “broken tracking” are different. First determine whether no outcome occurred or an outcome occurred but was not sent.
What our investigation established
Our campaign showed “Eligible (Limited),” with details mentioning incomplete conversion tracking and a new bid strategy learning. It used Maximize conversions.
We checked the signup-completion tag and published configuration in GTM, and observed tag loading in production traffic. This did not establish that Google Ads had received a signup conversion. Receipt remained unconfirmed.
The campaign's first day had zero impressions. During the following day's investigation, we observed six impressions. We changed neither the budget nor the bid strategy. We could establish that impressions occurred, but not that the warnings caused the earlier zero or that a fix restored delivery.
The lesson is to record the status explanation and results before changing settings. It is not a promise that waiting will solve the issue. A few impressions do not establish adequate delivery or acquisition efficiency.
Wait, fix, or investigate further?
| Situation | Next action |
|---|---|
| Review or learning, with no obvious configuration error found | Record what you checked, set the next review point, and observe delivery |
| Unintended pause, dates, payment issue, or targeting | Correct the affected setting and record the change and results |
| Outcomes exist but the measurement route is unconfirmed | Investigate tracking before broadening bidding |
| Few opportunities remain after checking settings | Revisit search demand, bid constraints, budget, and targets |
Click-focused bidding can suit some new accounts with little conversion data. More clicks, however, do not establish more signups. Before switching, define the purpose, cost ceiling, review period, and measurement requirements.
Review recommendations individually with our Google Ads recommendations checklist. Once delivery begins, use the high CPA troubleshooting guide to assess cost and outcomes.
Frequently asked questions
Why can an eligible ad still fail to appear?
Eligible does not guarantee an appearance in every search. Inspect ad and keyword status, targeting, negatives, budget, and bidding conditions. Do not judge only from your own searches.
How many days should I wait?
There is no waiting period that fits every account. Identify whether you are waiting for review, learning, or data updates, and read the interface guidance. Waiting alone is not a remedy for disapproval or suspended payments.
Do more impressions prove an improvement?
They establish that delivery occurred. Signup and purchase changes need separate checks. Impressions can increase without a setting change, so keep a record of changes and before-and-after figures.

Rules:
- Do not invent causes or industry benchmarks.

- More impressions alone do not establish an effect of a change.
- For changes, specify what to check, cost limits, and review conditions.
Output:
1. Confirmed facts
2. Candidate causes and missing information
3. Items to wait on, fix, or investigate further
4. Today's checking order (at most three items)
5. The next review point and metrics to inspect
